| November 16, 1999 was the date for the 20th Anniversary Interfaith Concert which was presented by the Interfaith Conference of Washington Dc (WWW.Interfaith-Metrodc.org). This is a very noble and positive initiative and was well received. Sheik Fathy Mady recited the cal to prayer as well as excerpts from the Quraan, Hindu folk dancers performed, Cantor Manevich and the Kol Rinah Choir and The Mormon Choir and the St. Matthews Catholic Cathedral Choir and the M. L. Sherin voices of Praise of the Israel Baptist Church and the Sikh Kirtani Jatha of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation all sang praises to God beautifully. It was a very spiritual evening for all concerned and a tremendous success. | |

| Mehfil Mehfil, a very popular local TV program that broadcasts on Sunday between 11-12 Noon on Channel 56 announced the special during the news last week. Mr. Laher will offer a special discount to people who are eligible for Citizenship during the first two weeks of Ramadaan. In addition he will conduct almost free seminars and workshops to help participants determine if they are eligible for citizenship. The workshops are designed to make participants complete the application process on their own. | |

INS Lifts Pause on H-1B Adjudications - December 15, 1999 |

| INS has advised AILA that, effective December 15, 1999, it will re-commence adjudications of H-1B petitions subject to the 115,000 cap. Adjudications of petitions filed after October 25, 1999 had been paused to enable slower Service Centers to catch up to one that was ahead. At the time the pause was announced, INS had also stated that it was stopping adjudications to help "get a handle on" the H-1B count. (It has since abandoned that latter explanation.) INS also cautions that it will likely impose similar pauses in the future, and estimates that the next one could be in the week following the Christmas holiday. | |
